Is grunt work ever acceptable during an internship? I come from a newspaper background, but I’m interested in magazines. My newspaper internships were ventures where students reported and earned bylines weekly. Many magazine internships aren’t like that..

Yes. Grunt work is acceptable. I was actually a hired employee at Billboard and I did a lot of coffee-fetching, mail sorting and delivering and phone calls. I did NOT earn a byline at Billboard until I had been there for many months.
